THE BFI Afterschool Mentoring Academy

This Leadership Academy is a mobile youth mentoring program serving Los Angeles County. We bring mentorship directly to schools, community centers, churches, parks, and other spaces where young people already gather, making support accessible and part of everyday life.

Life Skills & Professional Development
Participants build emotional intelligence, resilience, teamwork, and decision-making skills while addressing mental health, stress, peer pressure, bullying, and substance abuse - through S.T.E.A.M. activities like 3D printing, performing arts, and mindfulness workshops.

Academic Enrichment
We offer support in academics, career exploration, financial literacy, and college readiness. Students learn about credit, investments, and money management, culminating in a required Economic Project that applies real-world financial concepts.

Mentoring Beyond the Classroom
Through local and international service trips, mentees gain hands-on learning that broadens their perspectives.

Sharing Circle
A safe space for open dialogue, debating, building self-confidence, emotional discipline, leadership, and peer camaraderie.

The BFI Leadership Youth Council
Mentees lead service projects, draft policy proposals, and run for Youth Council roles (e.g., President, VP, Commissioner of Technology). Requires a 3.0 GPA. Provides real governance experience in advocacy, research, and leadership.

Students uncover their talents, passions, and futures, realizing their full potential.
